Light Photography

Light photographers

Light painting photographer Dana Maltby, also known as TCB or Twin Cities Brightest, is one of today’s most well-known and highly respected light painting artist. TCB is widely thought of by his peers to be on the forefront of the light painting photography movement. Dana’s body of work is astounding; he creates new images on a daily basis and is one of the most creative individuals in the light painting world. Dana has created several tools and techniques. He is known for not only his imagery but also his willingness to give away his secrets to the masses.  Dana discovered light painting while he was following one of his other passions “urban exploration”; he was taking pictures in a dark tunnel when he accidentally created his first light paintings. From that point on TCB was hooked.

Above, Dana's photography.

With my photos, I left the shutter open for 30 seconds to have enough time to draw my designs. In a dark room, it's hard to see what you're drawing, even with a bright light in your face. I took three photos that turned out pretty good. Two of them turned out how I expected them too, but the third wasn't; but I'm glad it didn't. Light photography is truly amazing. Below are the pictures of my light photography.

The first photo is a Triad, the symbol for a band called Thirty Seconds to Mars. The second are wings, and the third is what seems to be a cloud or smoke, which I think turned out pretty goo.

Documentary Photography

One photographer I'm interested in is Jacob Ring. Although I am not going to study him.
http://jacobring.com/

Jacob Ring is a documentary photographer, but often moves away from that subject and goes on to photograph non-documentary.

A selection of personal black and whites shot on 35mm film.

"Jacob Ring is a photographer whose gritty portrayal of even grittier urban environments oscillate effortlessly between colour saturated euphoria and eerie compositions with double exposed apparitions. We haven't been this impressed in a long time."

- Ashley Chang, Pedestrian TV

The photographer I am going to study is Nan Goldin.

Nan Goldin stays only on the subject of documentary photography, and her photos are easy to copy. Her photography is mostly aimed at the abuse ans sexual side of things.

Analyzing four pictures

After knowing who I wanted to look like (Amy Lee), I managed to chose a costume that resembled her look. The hair, though, couldn't be achieved very well, as Amy Lee has long black hair, and I have short red/purple hair.
The photos that were taken show me posing what my alter ego would pose like.

Photo 1 is of me, doing a typical Amy Lee pose, edited into a gothic background. I did this mainly because I liked the picture, and I have a weird obsession with gothic-looking castles or mansions. It also reminded me very much of the building used on the cover of The Open Door album (by Evanescence). Again, relating back to Amy Lee, my alter ego.

Photo 2 is a casual stance, but edited onto a scratchy background. On another post, I posted a picture of Amy Lee on a scratchy dark background. So, again, this reminded me of her, so I used it, and I love it.

Photo 3 is me next to Jared Leto (lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars). I'm in the same stance as the above picture, and I think this looks realistic (the shadows behind me, making it look like mine).

Now, photo 4 is very special to me - me and Amy Lee. I used the typical Amy pose for this one, as I'm edited in next to her, while Amy is doing her other typical pose. It's a simple blue background, which makes us stand out.

Bio:

Natalia Skye Tarasova

Natalia was born in Russia a few centruries back. Throughout these centuries, her Russian accent was lost and she travelled to Britain where she became a British citizen. Natalia is a vampire, thrown into immortalilty at the mere age of 19. She remails at that age eternally. Her memories of her human life are vague - it's like her memories were wiped out somehow. Nevertheless, Natalia Skye Tarasova goes forth, reckless and killing whoever she needs to to survive; one or two people a month. Natalia likes to kill. She likes to come across as evil. You could say Natalia is a nomadic vampire - she travels a lot, but, recently, she has stayed put in Britain because of the lack os sunshine.
Natalia's hair is long and black. Even in this day and age, she wears a black and gold corset along with a knee-high black skirt with ripped tights and military boots.

Who I plan to be/look like:

This girl is Amy Lee. My look will be based on her. I admire her loads, and she's my idol. I see her as my alter ego. She's the lead singer from my favourite band Evanescence.
